Applied Residential Wiring & 2014 NEC
4 or 8 credit hours

Description: Using a blueprint example, this course discusses the application of the 2014 NEC to residential wiring, covering how to locate and apply the codes.

4 Credit Hours:

(1 hour) Purpose of 2017 code for Residential wiring and Definitions
(3 hours) Blueprint Example: How to Locate Electrical components in code

8 Credit Hours:

      1. (4 hours) Same as 4 credit hours above PLUS:
      2. (1 hour) Specialty Situations such as pools, wireless controls, landscape
            lighting, ect.)
      3. (2 hours) Load Calculations for Residential
      4. (1 hour) A Discussion of Inspections and Safety

Applied Commercial Wiring & 2017 NEC
4 Credit Hours

Description: Using a blueprint example, this course discusses the application of the 2014 code to commercial wiring, covering how to locate and apply the codes. A
discussion of load calculation process, permitting, inspections & safety factors.

(1 hour) Purpose of 2017 code for Residential wiring.
(2 hours) Blueprint Examples: How to Locate Electrical components in code
(1 hour) 3-phase multi-panel calculation review.

Motors & Motor Controls
4 or 8 credit hours

Description: Covering NEC articles 409, 430 & 670 involving a thorough discussion of motors in the NEC, NFPA 79, OSHA 1910.212.

4 Credit Hours:

(1 hour) How motors work
1.1. Single-phase vs. Three-phase
1.2. Wiring motors
(1 hour) Focus on Industrial Motors

1.1 IEC Contactors vs. Heaters
1.2 Fuses vs. Breakers
3. (2 hours) Overload protection and grounding requirements.

8 Credit Hours:

     2. (2 hours) Motor Controls and Programming Logic Controllers
     3. (1 hour) Motorized Industrial Machine Code Requirements
     4. (1 hour) Motor Safety and OSHA requirements

If you are preparing for your electrical license Exam, all continuing education courses count as "secondary" experience towards the number of hours required to obtain a license in NC. See the NC Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, General Statutes Chapter 87-Article 4.

Description: Preparation to take the NC Electrical Exam for all classifications. This course will prepare the student for the testing environment, what to expect, what to study, use of techniques to make the student successful, including how to locate answers in the NEC. There will be a discussion of question examples and question types broken down and simplified.
